It would be amazing if there was a display that listed all of your resources, the rates at which they are produced at, and consumed at. I usually have my inventory open instead so I can track what I have and what I need. But is there any other sort of indicator I should be looking at? The graphs seem helpful, but it's annoying to open up all of them every couple minutes to make sure you're on track. In Planetbase it seems that you can look at the charts to know whether you're on the right track or not. "Crap, I have 200 food left and it's decreasing, I can see that I have 15 new nomads who arrived, so I will need to build more farms". If there's a problem you can usually see it in advance.

How am I supposed to care for new colonists? In a game like Banished you could keep an eye out on how many people are working in each type of job, how much food is being produced, etc. At this stage I'm usually running into metal issues I describe above. All of a sudden I need to build a LOT more stuff in order to feed those people and provide them with the resources I need. But then say suddenly a ship lands and my population doubles. I can look at my inventory and see that my food is being produced at a rate that will work for those 7 colonists. For example, say my colony works just fine with 7 colonists.

This is an unrelated question, but I also can't seem to figure out how to control my population. Anything else I should be doing? Do I just need more metal creation machines? (Really can't remember what they are called) I always build my mines close to the airlock, and my metal creation facility is close to the airlock too. The metal gets created so slowly that sooner or later an emergency just wipes out the base. The game essentially progresses at a good pace until the metal runs out. I can't expand, can't create anything for my base that requires metal, and so when there is an emergency (need more power or O2, etc.) I can't deal with it since I have no metal to build whatever I need to build.

After that, the metal doesn't get created nearly fast enough for anything to be sustainable. what am I doing wrong exactly? My base progresses very well until I run out of metal. after that I had to wait again for a while for somebody else to create more metal.

Someone only walked up to the machine when I had 10+ ore in storage. as well as base furnishings and spares and whatever else. I had 8 parts of ore lying around, but nobody was making use of the 2 machines to create metal, even though I really needed it for several construction projects. Last night I was playing a game and needed several domes built. I also build 2 metal constructors (sorry, can't remember proper name). I always build 2 mines, because otherwise my production of metal is even slower. When I start the game I build all domes I'll need to keep my colonists alive and happy. You need metal to create that from what I remember, but most of my metal (that was being produced incredibly slowly) was being put towards the construction of needed domes. In my last game everything was going well except all of a sudden I don't have spares. It takes forever to get new metal made, and so I'm unable to get anything else built fast enough, before there's a crisis or some sort underway and I'm unable to deal with it as a result. I have figured out most of the basics (I think) and can now easily put together a base that is sustainable, but what always seems to get me is the ultra slow production of metal, once I run out.

I got the game 2 days ago and have played for maybe 5 hours or so.
